• Designed award-winning books, atlases, and calendars.

• As a member of the Design Standards Working Group, developed the Society’s first comprehensive housemark use guide and consistent set of housemarks.

• As a member of a Society-wide task force helped design the entire NGS website ( in 4 months.

Systems Administrator, Book Division, 1/94 to 4/02

• Managed network of 60 Macintosh computers, remote users, and servers… developed, implemented, and provided training for the division’s electronic work flow using a dedicated server… provided initial hardware and software support for entire division… originated all hardware and software purchases… introduced and supervised use of FTP and VPN for file transfers.

Senior Art Director, National Geographic Traveler, 10/90 to 6/92

(bimonthly travel magazine, 750,000 circulation)

• Responsible for overall design and layout… instituted conversion of the production process from conventional to Macintosh-based using Quark XPress… developed and implemented procedures for electronic work flow… won Magazine Week’s Magazine of the Year Award.

Art Director, National Geographic Research, 8/84 to 9/90

(quarterly scientific journal, 6,000 circulation)

• From its inception was responsible for overall design and layout, picture editing, and quality control… monitored budget and instituted changes that reduced it by 33% in two years… converted journal from conventional to electronic production by introducing Macs, Quark XPress, and Freehand (first N.G.S. magazine to do so).

• Adobe Customer Workflow Advisory Board, 2000–2001: at semi-annual meetings advised Adobe product managers and evaluated future products

• Publishing: I have published five books utilizing my own photography and experimental offset techniques: Extinction Event: a Workbook, High School Students, Kew, the Royal Botanic Gardens, A Selection of Photographs of Specimens in the Conservatory of the United States Botanic Garden, and Jamestown Island.

• Fellowship: From the National Endowment for the Arts, for artists’ books.

• Collections: my books have been included in many national and international shows and are in collections including the Museum of Modern Art, J.Paul Getty Center, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Bibliotheque Nationale (Paris), Art Institute of Chicago.
